6-2-8 Breathing: How to Calm Your Nervous System

When you need to calm your nervous system, try this breathing technique:

Breathe in for 6 counts.

Hold for 2.

Exhale through your mouth for 8 counts.

Repeat.

This breathing pattern helps you regulate your nervous system to feel calm when you’re stressed. Use it to feel better when you’re nervous, anxious, or afraid.

6-2-8 breathing is also great to center you back into yourself so that you can make decisions from intuition instead of fear or ego.
