August 2024 Playlist: New Songs to Add

The playlist I’ve been listening to throughout the month! We’ve got some old songs, some brand new songs, and some stuff from in between.

Random thoughts on each song, with links to official videos where possible (most of which I’ve never seen, so this is fun):

  1. Lullaby – The Cure – I first heard this song when my best friend played it for me in the car. It’s a perfect song. They’ve also been dropping acoustic versions of songs on YouTube and Lullaby (acoustic) is excellent.
  2. Bout Mine – Mariah the Scientist – I love this woman’s music. I like that it’s from the album To Be Eaten Alive and follows Lullaby where we get eaten by a spider.
  3. Sweet Thang – Shuggie Otis – Continuing the journey with this psychedelic jam. First heard this when Harry Styles played it right before coming out on stage for 2021’s Love On Tour.
  4. Ain’t Nobody – Chaka Khan – An absolute classic. Love the drama and bigness of it.
  5. Champagne Coast – Blood Orange – Heard this song online, fell in love. It builds so beautifully to the end.
  6. Fast Times – Sabrina Carpenter – I didn’t think I was a fan of her music but I do love this song. Cinematic.
  7. Manta Rays – chloe moriondo – One of my favorite songs from Blood Bunny (a perfect album). She also has a fantastic acoustic version of the song.
  8. EASY – LE SSERAFIM – Glad my K-Pop obsessed daughter introduced this one to me. It’s got such a cool little bounce to it that reminds me of the Y2K songs we loved.
  9. A Bar Song (Tipsy) – Shaboozey – And glad that my partner introduced this one to me.
  10. Self Love – Metro Boomin & Coi Leray – Didn’t realize how much I loved this song until I listened to it in the car with my nieces.
  11. Cheers to That (feat. Alex Mali) – Abby Jasmine – An absolute personal classic. Abby Jasmine never made a bad song and I adore Alex Mali. This collab is magic.
  12. Cash Race – Tinashe – Another personal classic. Never gets old.
  13. Hypnotised – Modern Addiction – A song I forgot until it came up on my shuffle one day – and then it made its way into this playlist.
  14. Almost Cut My Hair – Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young – Heard this on a camping trip driving around the mountains.
  15. Triptych – Samia – I love Samia. Loved her Tiny Desk Concert too.
  16. My Head & My Heart – Ava Max – My daughter played me this song, of course not knowing that it samples Around the World by ATC, but it’s a good time for everyone.
  17. DESSERT (feat. Loopy & JEON SOYEON) – HYO – Just a really fun energetic kind of goofy K-Pop song what else can I say?
  18. What They Want – Russ – I really feel Russ when he sings this.
  19. Brazil – Declan McKenna – Another song found on social media…
  20. Joshua Tree – Carly Rae Jepsen – Vibes! Slinky cool desert getaway vibes….
  21. Till the End – A Mighty Forest Black – More vibes! Chill vibes. German Black Forest jazz vibes? Also I’m not quite sure if ’93 Til Infinity by Souls of Mischief actually samples this song or if they have a common sample or what but I always get the same vibe from it.
  22. Lift Me Up – Moby – One of my most played songs from my iPod days.
  23. PLAY (feat. Changmo) – CHUNG HA – Another K-Pop staple in my summer – scratch that, year round – playlist. Also, how good is this dance performance to this song??
  24. Shadows – Cannons – Maybe my favorite song from this album. Always love their moody danceable songs.
  25. Marinade – DOPE LEMON – I love the laid back melancholy mood of this one.
  26. Thinking About You (feat. Ayah Marar) – Another classic from back in the day! Always a jam.
  27. Die For Me (feat. Lil Yachty) – Jean Dawson – My best friend sent me this song and I loved it. On the playlist it goes.
  28. No Broke Boys – Tinashe – What a fun lyric video! Now can we ask for an official music video? Tinashe’s always been my girl. Quantum Baby slaps, as do all her projects. I don’t know how many times I’ve listened to this song since it came out. Wake up and stream Tinashe, people!
  29. New Woman (feat. ROSALÍA) – LISA – Love Miss Lisa’s musical direction since the BLACKPINK girls started pursuing their own projects. Top notch collab to have these two on a track together.
  30. Crunch (feat. MELVV) – Jordana – Another artist with no bad songs? This song does sound crunchy and I like it.
  31. You Put Me In a Trance – Nu Shooz – Nostalgic.
  32. Doin’ Time – Lana Del Rey – Nostalgic with a modern twist.
  33. Versace Hottie – Princess Nokia – Bop.
  34. Killing Me – Little Dragon – Was never a favorite but it really hit when I listened to it again recently, and it really hits in this playlist.
  35. Smile – Wolf Alice – Such a jam.
  36. California – Lana Del Rey – A great sad song.
  37. Mama’s Home (feat. Alfred) – McKinley Dixon – Another beautiful sad song, and with immaculate production.
  38. JEREMIAH (RMX) – BROCKHAMPTON – Another bop. Though I can’t say I fully understand the meaning of this one.
  39. Glory Box – Portishead – Again, nostalgic.
  40. Holy Terrain (feat. Future) – FKA Twigs – I adore Twigs and her whole catalog. This song feels like home.

Looking forward to creating a new playlist for September.
